Upcoming Event On May 1 - Microsoft To Speak

Kelly Thomas and Jorie Waterman from Microsoft’s adCenter will speak about the tools and technology being developed by Microsoft to help search engine marketers during all stages of their advertising campaigns. They will cover ways to use the unique research prototypes available on adLabs and the adCenter Add-in for Excel – all tools enabling advanced keyword research needed to hone campaigns in both paid and natural search.   After walking through the data and tools available, Waterman and Thomas will discuss how they see search engine marketers utilizing this data across the lifecycle of a campaign.

Attendees will learn and experience:

  • What is available on adCenter, and a glimpse into the roadmap for the future
  • A deep dive into Demo Targeting and Bid Boosting
  • Research prototypes available for review on adLabs
  • How the industry could use this data in their strategic planning and optimization processes

The next event is on Thursday, April 3 at 6:00 pm, SEMPO AZ will be holding a members only event at Sitewire in Tempe.

Event Feedback from Attendees

There has been some great feedback from attendees at SEMPO Arizona monthly events.

Out of around 130 attendees at the last two meetings 87.6% stated that their expectations from the event were realized.  The events were rated in the ‘Very Good’ range and speakers all have very favorable feedback.

Attendees rate ‘industry information and trends’ and ‘networking opportunities’ as the most important reasons for attending these events.  Also highly rated was the food and drinks available!

All in all this was very favorable feedback.  The management team looks forward to using this information to make future events even more successful.  Thanks to all who took part in the surveys.

March Meeting - Online Reputation Management

Last nights meeting was a success with a full house at The Lavidge Company’s building in Scottsdale. Lots for great food and drink was on hand. The topic for the night was online reputation management. Presentations by Geoffrey Wilcoxson of iCrossing and Fionn Downhill of Elixir Systems encouraged some lively discussion. Upcoming March Event

The next monthly meeting is on Thursday, March 6 2008 at 6:00 pm we will conduct an information session for SEMPO AZ members on reputation monitoring. Members will walk away with a better understanding of:

  • How to monitor what is being said about your brand and you online
  • Best practices for getting involved in the conversation both negative and positive
  • How to avoid negative results dominating the space
  • Best practices for repairing damaged results
  • How to take long term preventative action to avoid future problems
  • Tools that are used to monitor and map social media-based conversations and nodes

The session will be held at The Lavidge Company located at 6263 North Scottsdale Road, Suite 190 in Scottsdale.

Last Night’s Event - A Great Success!!

Feb 7th Event - Social Media & Advertising Opportunities in Social Applications

The upcoming February SEMPO AZ event is titled ‘Social Media & Advertising Opportunities in Social Applications.’ It will feature participation from representatives of Google, Jobing.com and KEO Marketing.

This unique SEMPO AZ event will be centered around social media from three perspectives: the agency, the client and the search engine.

Local marketing agency, KEO Marketing, will discuss the ways in which they are using social media as part of a the marketing mix for their clients. Jobing.com will discuss how they are incorporating social media elements (blogs, video, etc) into their website to open up dialog with their customers. And Google will talk about how they are helping customers expand their advertising reach by offering marketing opportunities on social media.

Google will share free and paid marketing opportunities in social media, including on YouTube and on social networks. Jobing.com and KEO Marketing will discuss how social media is growing business on a local level. Users want the internet to be interactive and they are increasingly spending more time on online social applications. As a result of the shift in user behavior, marketers need new ways to reach their target audience. We will look at ways marketers can use Google’s Adwords and other online outlets to reach an audience of users who are spending time online watching videos on YouTube and socializing with friends on social networks.

Attendees will learn:

1. How Google can help you get more traffic to your rich media assets and tap into viral marketing with YouTube

2. How Google apps are great to get users to interact with your brand and how to use OpenSocial to write your code once and get it on multiple social networks

About the Speakers

Frederick Vallaeys
AdWords Evangelist, Google Inc.

Frederick is Google’s AdWords Evangelist. In this role, he helps advertisers learn about which Google products can best solve their marketing needs and he represents the needs of advertisers with the engineering and product management teams. He has been involved in the design of many of AdWords’ core features as well as those related to new and traditional media.

Prior to Google, Frederick was an engineer at Sapient and a part-time wedding photographer who found new customers through AdWords. He joined Google in 2002 to help bring AdWords to the Dutch and Belgian markets. He earned his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2000.

David Brooks
Manager, National Agency Team, Online Sales & Operations, Google, Inc.

David manages the National Agency team at Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., which oversees Google’s relationships with advertising agencies, and search engine marketing consultancies. Prior to joining Google in 2003, David came from IDG which is a worldwide technology publishing and event company. While at IDG, David was responsible for sales and client service efforts for many the industries leading technology events. Earlier in his career, David’s background was in the non-profit sector. He is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University.

Don Mock Jr
Community Relations Manager, Jobing.com

Don Mock joined the Jobing.com community relations team in February of 2007. His role as Community Relations Manager provides him the great opportunity to keep his feet on the street in the industry and workforce areas of Phoenix. He is a member of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee, the Valley of the Sun Human Resources Association Communications Committee, and a member of the Arizona JAG (Jobs for Arizona Graduates) board and Arizona Small Business Association Board of Directors. He works to connect local job seekers and local employers utilizing partner networks, blogs and video blogs and video profiles. He looks forward to many more opportunities to partner and serve the various industries in the Phoenix area.

Sheila Kloefkorn
President, KEO Marketing

Sheila Kloefkorn is President of KEO Marketing, a Tempe, AZ based agency specializing in search engine marketing, optimization, social media and online advertising. As President, Sheila is responsible for developing comprehensive online solutions for medium and small businesses across the United States and more than 100 countries around the world. She is currently the Immediate Past President of the Phoenix Chapter of the American Marketing Association and a founding member of SEMPO AZ. Sheila has also held senior positions with iCrossing and YouthStream Media Networks.
